What are Dermal Fillers?

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are one of the most popular treatments as they offer an instant natural result. Dermal fillers are made of a substance called Hyaluronic acid (HA) which works brilliantly as it is already present in your skin. Dermal fillers are very versatile making them suitable for many different treatment areas within the face. At Queens Mews Clinic we use two different types of HA filler; Belotero® and Juvéderm®. Both products are ideal for smoothing and filling wrinkles, they are also great for lip augmentation, restoring facial volume and skin rehydration. Both products can be combined with Lidocaine (pain relief) to make each procedure incredibly comfortable for our patients.

Are they safe?

HA fillers have been used within the cosmetic industry for many years. Juvéderm®  has been FDA approved since 2006 and has been used in over 16 million treatments. Belotero®  has been FDA approved since 2011.

Why choose a Dermal/HA filler

Young people's skin is constantly moisturised from within by hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar in the body. Hyaluronic acid absorbs moisture and keeps your skin well hydrated to present a youthful looking appearance. As we age, our skin loses hyaluronic acid and fine lines start to appear on the face. Some of these lines become wrinkles due to outside factors like sun exposure, diet, smoking and facial movement.

What happens if I do not like the result?

Dermal fillers can be dissolved if you do not like your treatment results.

How it works

During the dermal filler (HA) treatment sessions with Dr Annie, the HA filler is injected into the specific treatment area agreed upon, this is using a very fine needle or a cannula. Once the filler has been injected, it acts a bit like a cushion which supports the structures of the face, this instantly fixes tissues which may have lost volume or elasticity. All the dermal filler products we use at Queens Mews produce an instant result. Dr Annie will be able to advise you on the length of time you can expect the result to last.

In addition to filling out wrinkles and  correcting lost volume, fillers are a great way to hydrate the surface of the skin, to keep it looking fresh and plump.

What our patients think

"Essex's best kept secret, everyone should talk to Annie, she knows her stuff!" Chantelle -34

How long does treatment take?

Treatment time can take anywhere from 10-30 minutes depending on the treated areas.

Who shouldn't have Dermal Filler Treatment?

You should avoid treatments if you are pregnant/breastfeeding or you are sensitive to hyaluronic acid. We do not advise treatment if you have a current facial infection such as herpes/coldsores. Caution should be exercised if you have had any other recent (last 4 weeks) laser/chemical treatment or if you have a tendency to scar or hyperpigment. Please speak to Dr Annie McGarrity for further guidance on your suitability for treatment and book a free consultation.
